Poll – Does fishing count as a sport?
Or is it a "pastime" / "activity"?
I don’t reckon its a real sport…

If your drinking beer while fishing,it’s considered fun..otherwise it’s just a reason to get out of the house.

in the US it is,…. we have championships and tournaments to see who can catch the biggest one, and we even have TV shows that are all about fishing, showing new rods and reels and lures, I find it rather boring myself, but some of the guys here just love it,

Answer to question in no way to be construed as chatting:
I suppose it is more sporting to go fishing than to play chess. You have to "lure" the fish to your line and they can nibble without getting caught, so they have a "Sporting" Chance at getting away!
Fishing is nasty. You get bait all over your hands, then IF you catch a fish, you get their slime and whatever is in the water all over you, THEN when you clean them, your hands smell like fish for days afterward… YUCK!

Just to be contary I will say yes. The fish arnt just sitting there waiting to get caught. You have decide the most likely place to find them, time of day, what bait, eg lures, fly, live bait etc
I fished for Trout in the rivers and these fish are damn cunning and depending on water condition can see movement on the bank and this will spook them
This fishing is not chuck and hope ,you are hunting them and
pitting your cunning against theirs and a lot of the time you lose
